Our Founding Fathers

Barrister Hotchand Gopaldas Advani

Barrister Hotchand Gopaldas Advani born and brought up in Hyderabad Sind, obtained his degree from King’s College, London. He was not just a brilliant and leading lawyer, but a great educationalist as well. Besides being an accomplished professional, he worked tirelessly for various social causes and always tried to help all those who approached him for any kind of help.

He was a very respectable personality, soft spoken and very compassionate person. Barrister Hotchand Gopaldas Advani worked tirelessly throughout his life so much so that he breathed his last while working at his desk after dinner at the age of 85. Barrister Hotchand Gopaldas Advani was not only Founding Father of our Board but friend, a guide and a philosopher, who was ever ready to help in all endeavours of the Board.

Vidyasagar Principal K. M. Kundnani

Vidyasgar Principal K. M. Kundnani was born and brought up in Hyderabad, Sind. He came to Mumbai to join Royal Institute of Science to obtain his M.Sc. Degree in Physics. He was the first Sindhi to be awarded M.Sc. Degree in Physics.  Since sports was his second passion, he qualified as a Director of Physical Education from YMCA College of Physical Education in Chennai.

Being deeply involved in sports, he became Chairman of the Inter Collegiate Sports Committee and General Secretary for inter-group sports of the University of Bombay, comprising all Colleges in Sind, Bombay, Gujrat, Pune and Karnataka. He started his career in Hyderabad, Sind, as a Lecturer at Rishi Dayaram Gidumal College, initially known as National Institution. After working for 17 years he became Principal of the College in 1947 and subsequently Secretary for the College Board.

Principal K.M. Kundnani was a man of conviction and God fearing and a financial wizard. He was a man of infinite vision. The partition of the subcontinent of India and Pakistan was a cruel blow for every affected human being and much so for Principal Kundnani who got concerned about his fellow colleagues who lost everything overnight, but due to his convictions and courage he thought of establishing a college in Mumbai to give solace to his brethren and the deprived Sindhi Refugee Community. He along with Barrister Hotchand Advani established the first college in 1949 against heavy odds. Soon, one after the other, institutes were established and today the Board has 28 institutes under its flagship and a University i.e. HSNC University, Mumbai, under which four new institutes have been established.
